SAVED BY CORSETS.
BULLET FROM REVOLVER DEFLECTED. Miss Kathleen Grantham, aged 30, manageress of a millinery shop in Western Road, Brighton, ivas recently saved, from a violent death through her corsets deflecting ia bullet which would otherwise have penetrated her side. Mr William Padwiclc, aged .about 50, a well-known farmer, of Green Done, Thakeham, entered the shop and shortly afterwards shots were heard. Miss 'Grantham dashed out of the shop excited and clung to a . gentleman who was passing, appealing for help. Passers-by rushed into the shop and found Pad wick huddled up on the floor by the counter Avith a terrible wound in his mouth. Grasped in his hand Avas a smoking iWolver while in a pocket Avas a bottle of poison. Miss G ran^iani was on '.V slightly grassed by the bullet, but was utterly upset by the tragic occurrence. .PadAvick, according to Miss Grantham, was her guardian, and had a groAvnup family. She-said ho suddenly pu lied a revoh'or out and aimed it at her. She knocked it up as he pulled the trigger, and rushed for the! door. As she did’ so she heard another report and felt something strike her side.
