A WRECKED SHIP.
THE FORREST HALL
(Press Association.)
AUCKLAND, Mar. 1
A telegram from Parengarenga, north of Auckland, states that the ship Forrest Hall was wrecked on Saturday morning on the west coast, about 20 miles south-east of Cape Maria Van Dieman, near To Arai Bluff. The spot where the ship, came ashore is a somewhat lonely part of the coast. The residents of Parengarenga, on the east coast, do not seem to have been made aware of tlie wreck until .late in the day.
The ship was on her way to Chilian ports from Newcastle, loaded with about 3000 tons of coal. She had been 21 days out from the port of departure. She 'apparently had been blown out of her course considerably, as she should have passed to the north of tlie Three Kings. It was about 9.30 a.m. when the vessel went ash"■>•'». All on board were .able to reach the beach in safety, but there is a fear that the heavy seas which come in on the west coast will break tlie ship up before any refloating operations can be attempted.
The Forrest Hall is an iron, fullrigged ship of 2052 tons register, in command of Captain P. A. Logan. Charles G. Dunn and ■ Co., of Liverpool,, are the owners. [The ship was built at Liverpool in 1883.] . Captain Logan and the first mate of the Forrest Hall arrived at Parengarenga on Sunday in a very exhausted condition. The captain returned to the vessel, a twelve miles’ journey.
