FINANCIAL POSITION. 1 A special meeting of the F iiianee Committee of the Borough Council •was held in the Council Chambers yesterday afternoon to consider the financial position of the borough. The following figures were submitted to the meeting: Statement of financial position as at March 1. 1909, and estimated receipts and expenses to June 30, 1909. without allowing for striking a new rate: —

It "will b'o seen from the above tablo tliat the financial position of the borough is not so serious as was anticipated. It is considered likely, how ever, that the rate will have to be struck on March 31st, or a couple of months earlier than usual
