MATAWHERO STOCK SALES. An abundance of stock and a poor attendance was the order at the weekly sale of stock held at Matawliero yesterday. Fully 15,000 sheep were yarded, but the quality generally Avas not very high. The feAv liens of better class stock sold at top market rates. The yarding consisted chiefly, of breeding ewes, and one pen of 162 sold as high as 13s, with other lots at I Is, 11s Id, 11s 9d, but the average .price ranged from 7s 6d to 9s. SHEEP. There was a small quantity of fat stock, among a large number of pens filled with stores. Fifty-four avetliers old at 11s 6d, 37 fat ewes at 9s 6d, and 23 forward ewes at 9s Id. -Store sheep opened badly, but the market improved as the day advanced, and nearly all the lines Avere sold either at auction or privately. A pen of L 62 nice breeding cavgs brought 13s, the top price of the day, Avhile other pens sold from 3s Id to 11s 9d. The .Allowing were the -other .principal s lies of store ewes: 319 at lie 9d, 100 at 11s 9d, 385 at 10s, -380 at 9s, 57 it 8s 7d, 165 at 7s lOd, 22 at ss, and small pens as low as 3s Id. Store wethers sold at recent rates ; 340 at 10s, topped the market, Avhile other pens sold from 8s to 8s sd. Lambs :o!d freely, there being a good demand for freezers. Prices ranged from 7s to 8s 3d for better sorts, while poor quality pens sold as low as 2s 6d. The billowing rams Avere sold under the hammer: 1 Romney £1 Is, 6 Sbrop- ! hires Signs, 5 2gns, 1 Shropshire ljgn, 1 Shropshire lgn, 1 Border Leicester 2gns, 31 Lincolns ljgns, and tAvo aged at 2s 6d. PIGS. Three porkers sold at 30s and 7 •veanors at- 4s. These were the only lots sold. CATTLE. The cattle yarded totalled about- 500 head. Seven fat coavs sold at £4, 56 cows and calves at 355, ayliile other pens Avere disposed of privately at •‘.satisfactory rates.
