PERSONAL.
( Mr. A. Barron, Chairman of the Government lLand Purchase Commission, is at present in this district. Mr. G. J.. Black returned from the South on Saturday. Dr. Pomare, Chief Native Health Officer, arrived in Gisborne on Saturday. He will remain for about a 'week, and during his stay will visit 'a number of native settlements in the 'district.
Captain Shannon, of the 16th Lancers, who succeeds Captain Lyon as A.ft.C. to his Excellency, was expected to arrive in Palmerston N. on Thursday last. The proposed trip by the Hon. J. A. Millar to Otira and the West Coast at the end of next week has had to be deferred, as the Minister has been asked to \procecd to Wellington to-day- to attend a Cabinet meeting. Mr. T. H. Hustwidk, for- many years Inspector of Explosives, and Customs Analyst, will retire on Superannuation at the end of the present month.
Mr. J. B. Lesina. a member of the Queensland Parliament, is"" at present touring New Zealand. Dr. Tutere Wi Repa is now convalescent after his recent illness, and was about town on. Saturday. Mr. H. E. Hill has received advice of his re-appointment as Registrar of Births, Deaths, and Marriages for the Gisborne district.
