LICENSING COMMITTEES.

TRIENNIAL ELECTION. POLLING TO-DAY. The triennial election of members >f the Licensing Committee for the Gisborne electorate will be held today. The polling booths have hern Plotted to the majority, of the places used at- the last general elections for numbers of Parliament, and will be ipen from 9 a.m. to 6 r*m. All per:ons whose names were on the roll in use at the last general election, and ilso persons whose names have been ulded since, are entitled to vote for numbers of the Licensing Committee. THE CANDIDATES. Five members are to be elected, and while eleven candidates were nomilated, one (Mr. F. AY. Riach) has vithdrawn.- leaving ten in the field, the candidates are:— Clayton, AVilliam Lissant Collins, James Clive Darton, George. Edward Dewing, Alfred Hepburn, Duncan McConnell, Thomas McLeod, Malcolm Primrose, George AYatson Siinson, lan S.mson Somervell, John

The wav to vote is TO STRIKE JUT the name of the candidate for -which the person does not wish to vote. Each elector can vote for any lumber of candidates from one to five, o that plumping is lawful, but any >allot paper with six or more names .iot crossed out will lie informal. THE HALF-HOLIDAY.

The usual provisions that apply to i general election also apply to the 'lection for Licensing Committees. Hotels must-close from noon until 7 p.m., and any gift of liquor during those prohibited hours shall be deemed to he a sale. A half-holiday must be observed from 1 p.im. by all offices and business places, and all employers must allow tlieir employees a reasonible time in which to record their votes. THE RETURNS. The Returning Officer (Mr. 11. E. Hill) has made arrangements tp-re-ceive the results of the polling at the different booths by' special telephonic or telegraphic message, as soon as possible after the booths have been closed, and it is anticipated that the results will be known by 9 o’clock.
