The Gisborne Times. PUBLISHED EVERY MORNING. FRIDAY, MARCH 12, 1909. A STEP FORWARD.

Our readers drill note from the altered style of this morning’s issue that the Gisborne “Times” has reached another stage ixi its progressive development. When, in October last, we issued our first eight-page paper, iwe promised that, as soon as-new machinery could be imported from England, we would print an even larger and better sheet. This promise ig fulfilled with this, morning’s publication. Since October last wc have been grievously handicapped in endeavoring to meet the evident wi..h of our readers that-Aye . should supply eight pages Cjj) reading matter each morning. The printing machine, which .sufficed amply for requirements so ret cently. as 18-month.s ago, will only print t-.vo pages-at a.time, the result being that lour printings were necessary for each issue of the paper, y Our new printing machine, is wliat is known as Dawson’s two-feeder Wharfdale, and is one of the most efficient and up-to-date machines' that British manufacturers have succeeded in devising. With its use it will be possible to print four pages at a time, and this morning’s issue is the result Of. two printings. Not only.that, but the capacity of the hew '.'mtichine, being over 3000 copies per hour';' enables the work to be done with an immense sav’ng of time a 5 compared with the-.,0kl methods. In addition- the Times Companyis .plant has •been added to by the'acquisition of a cutting and folding 'machine, which will.

be. brought into use in a few days. By

cutting, and folding the paper with mathematical! precision; this machine will save the. .time of the runner hoys, enabling them to continence their round's earlier, and will, at the same time, improve the appearance of the paper. We are still conscious of sonic shortcomings-, hut they are of a minor description, and we feel sure that tlio issue which is printed to-day will lie received with approbation by all our readers.
