MAT AW HERO STOCK SALES. The sheep pens at Matawhero yesterday were all filled, hut cattle were in small supply. Messrs Common, Shelton and Co., Dalgety and Co., Williams and Kettle, and the New Zealand I-ysn and Mercantile Company all had ,?ui'ge yardings, the total being about 16,090 sheep and 50 head of cattle, The offering was chiefly of breeding ewes, and while most pens sold, big prices were- not obtained, although seme nice stock were yarded. There were very few fat sheep on offer. A small pen of fat wethers sold at 12s 6d, and a larger pen at 11s Id, 34 fat ewes sold at Ss, 9 fat lambs at 10s, while small lines of lambs sold from 8s to 8s fid. The auctioneers did not dwell too long in coaxing bids for store stock, and buyers were told to bid quickly. The better class pens of ewes fetched from 10s to 10s 6d, but small pens of old ewes sold as low as Is and 2s, and lambs as low as Is Sd. The best pens of ewes were 281 at 10s Gd, 498 young owes at 10s 3d, 223 at 10s 3d. 309 forward ewes at 10s 3d. with other pons from Is to 9is 6d. The following were the principal sales under the. hammer: 210 big-framed ewes at 9s Gd, 151 ewes at 7s "lid, 267 two-tooth ewes at Bs, 76 old ewes at Is 3d, 33 ewes in poor condition Is, and 218 ewes at 2s Gd. Store wethers sold, at recent rates: 49 •at 10s 3d, 125 four-tooths at 10s Sd. 52 two-tootbs at Ss Id, 10 wethers and 28 ewes 7s 3d, 17 ewes and wethers -5s fid, 155 lambs os, 182 lambs (a poor lot) 3s, and 21 lambs (small, and in poor condition) at Is Dd were the pens that best, indicate the market. Five Border Leicester rams sold at £1 Is. CATTLE. Tils few cattle yarded were all disposed of 23 stores at recent values* »>
