CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Executive Committee of the Gisborne Chamber of Commerce was held yesterday afternoon. In the absence of Mr. J. Townley. Mr. F. W. Riac-h took the chair. Messrs Waehsrnann, Burton, Kells, R txTiono, O’Meara, and Dewing were also present. Apologies were received from Messrs A. F. Kennedy and J. B. Kirk. The secretary reported that in response to a -request- i rein the Napier Chamber of Commerce a delegate had been appointed to attend the conference held in Napier re the GisborneNapier railway. The Wellington Chamber of Commerce asked that delegates- be sent to the annual conference oi Chambers of Commerce 'to be hold in Wellington in. April. A list of 30 subjects set down for discussion was also die-cussed.

Mr. Wachsmann said c, matter that might be eonsilered by *-3be conference was that sheep farmers ge-i> no allowance from London buyers for wool sacks, which cost 2s Gel, and had to also allow the. buyers 41b cf wool per bale for the sack."

It was decided to ask Mr. Townley to accept the appointment of delegate. Mr. Burton said that there was no recognised system of discounts on moil-, tidy payments in Gisborne, and ho thought some rule might be observed among traders.

Mr. Kells said he found Hurt some rule among business houses was necessary. as often discount was asked for on old accounts, and it was hard to refuse a good customer in the übeenco of ?. rule.
