THE WELLINGTON ZOO.
' Wellington’s Zoo is growing rapidly.There are in its membership the lion, which the citizens love to hear roar, and which will now have a mate, a camel, three monkeys, two lemurs, a pair of hog deifr, a- pair of Russian deer, a pair of Timor deer, one Axis deer, a pair of great gray kangaroos, a pair of red-necked and brush-tailed wallabies, three -dingoes, some tuataras, and opossums, and a great number of guineapigs, hedgehogs, and rabbits. In addithe mammals ,there- are a large number .of Now Zealand birds, Australian birds, and birds from all parts of the world. There are block "and white swans, Muscovy, mallard, and other ducks, Chinese maned geese, pukala, half a- dozen different kinds of seagulls, Australian and New Zealand teal an ibis, terns, four emus, a pair of peafowl, Californian quail, a native pigeon, -a weka, a morepork owl, a great variety of pheasants, _ some of them beautifully plum aged,_ -crested doves, hawks, and laughing jackasses. The collection includes finches, cockatoos, parrots, love-birds, and Pekin iobins. ■ A . ( /•:A. f
