PROSPECTING FOR GOLD.

VISIT OF THE HON. A. T. NGATA-

The Ron. A. T. Ngata arrived inr Gisborne on Saturday, and left for the Coast on Sunday. Mr. Ngata will meet His Excellency the Governor upon hfs arrival at Tuparoa, and will accompany' Lord Plunket as far as Vhakatane. Speaking to .a “Times” reporter, Mr. Ngata said that the Hon. Janies Carroll would meet tile party in the Urewera country at the end of the month, Council would be held, and the opening! Council would be hold, and the opening of the country to prospectors for gold would be discussed. In all probability a .large, committee would be appointed, and this committee would draw up conditions under which prospecting" and. gold mining would lie allowed. Speaking of Lord Plunket’s visit to the East Coast, Mr. Ngata said that this would be the first visit of any Governor of New Zealand to Tuparoa and the TJ re wera Country. The local bodies at Wkakatane had invited His Excellency to visit that district, and the Governor would be taken through the Urewera Country, and after he had seen most of the leading natives would go on to 'Rotorua. Mr. Ngata will not go as far as Rotorua, but will return to Wellington after the Urewera Council is over.
