ROWING.

POVERTY BAY CLUB. The following representative crews have been selected for the forthcoming lowing carnival: Seniors. —M. McLeod (str.). B. Lowe (3), C. Winter (2), J. W. Nicolas (bow). Juniors. —J. Stuart (str.), J. Brngge (3), IT. J. Kolschier (2), S. Doig (bow). Ten-stone. —C. Somervell (str.), C. Clark (3), G. Douglas (2), T. McConnell (bow). Chalenge Crew. —A. Pritchard (str.), J. Blakeley (3), J. Newton (2), F. Seymour (how). Commenting on the various crews, a rowing enthusiast gives his opinion as follows: Seniors: M. McLeod (stroke) pulls a fair oar, but is inclined to rush things too much for a two-mile race. He should study his men a little .more, and make his stroke longer. B. Lowe (3) i s algo inclined to rush things, but pulls a very strong oar. He is very ragged in his work, and lie should try and catch the water better. C. Winter (2) pulls very strong, and sits well up m the boat,' catching the water clean. •J. W. Nicolas (bow) is inclined to be careless in his work. He should tij and straighten himself up. This crew would want a lot of coaching. I would advise them to take a coach out and pay attention to what he says, for the crow, though strong, are very ragged in them work. Ten-stone crew:C. Somervell (stroke) lias a great fault in dropping his head when lie is catching the water, and not leaning well back at the finish of the stroke. He ■seems to pull strong, but I would advise him to make more use of bis arms, and sliarnen up hr? stroke a lot at the start. C. Clark (3) pul's a strong oar, but is inclined to follow the strokes, which is a bad habit. Ho should always remember .to keep his head up, and finish his stroke clean. G. Douglas (2) does good work, pulls nice and clean, and catches the water well. T. McConnell (bow) nulls the best oar in the boat, but is inclined at times to follow the example of the stroke. I would advise this crow to do good training and liven up their stroke, for they will have a good crew to meet in tho race. , , ■ „ Juniors: J. Stuart (stroke) pubs well, but always seeins to want to knock his men up by pulling a short and fast Stroke. I would advise him to make the stroke a little longer, and get jnore weight on, J. Brngge (3). This is his first year at rowing, and he has done very well, but I would advise him to pay great attention to the coach, for he pulls , a little ragged % v * H. J. Holsehier (8) is another oi this season’s rowers, and pulls very utiong. He is inclined to get over-anxious to do too much work. S. Doig (bow) isa this year’s beginner. He should tij and hold his slide a little more, not to screw fio much in. the boat, and keep his eyes on the man in front of him. Challenge crew, juniors: A. Pritchard (stroke) lias got a bad fault in letting ifijs head drop at the time lie catches the water. He should try and keep it up. He pulls very strong, and when his crew meets the juniors selected, should give them a good go. J. Blakely (3) would do hotter if, he held his slide, and got more weight on at the commencement of tho stroke. J. Newton (2) is an old oar, but does not seem to °et out of the bad habit of screwing in flic boat,,but lie-pulls very strongly.

F. Seymour (bow) si-well up in the boat, but fehould put moro shoulder work in and lean a little further back at tho finish of his stroke, as he pulls short.'
