ADOPTED CHILDREN.

THEIR RIGHTS UNDER THE COMPENSATION ACT. (Press Association.) WELLINGTON, March 16. An interesting legal point, concerning the rights of' adopted children under the Workers' Compensation for Accidents Act, was argued in the Arbitration Court to-day. A man named Nevis was killed while working on the wharf last year. 'He was employed by the Ehaw, SaviH and Albion Company, who paid £4OO compensation into the hands of the Public Trustee. The widow now applied to have the money paid over, and the Public Trustee sought the Court’s ruling as to whether the adopted child had any rights under the Compensation Act. His Honor said section 7 of the Adoption of Children Act made an adopted child the child of the adopting parents for all purposes. He ordered the parties to communicate with Mrs. Nevis and ascertain whether she was agreeable to have a portion of the money settled on the child; if not, the Court would have to fix the disposition.
