HAWKE’S DAY CATTLE STEALING.
o A CONVICTION. (Press Association.) _/ NAPIER, March 17. lifts Supremo Court was to-day occupied with the hearing of the charge against Win. Brewer, aged 23 years, of stealing 44 head of cattle, the property el Richard Keene and'Jas. Reid, from Runanga station. The jury returned a verdict of guilty, with a strong recommnedation to mercy, the foreman adding that the jury "thought that to some extent the prisoner had been led by Samuel Beswick, formerly manager of the station, who is now serving a sentence for stealing cattle from the property in question. Sentence in Brewer’s cast was deferred.
