Some months ago the Army officials opened a subscription list, aiming at £7OO. in order that- they could erect the necessary buildings oil Ruthe s Island and at once met with a favorable response, several thousand pounds being subscribed in a few On making inquiry yesterday, a “New Zealand Herald’’ representative was informed that a total of .£4-500 had now been guaranteed. Though this leaves £-:«09 to be obtained, the Army official* are sanguine that they will have no difficulty in raising the money. In the plans provision is made for the accommodation of 100 persons at Rnthc-'s Island.
