CONTINUOUS RAIN
Though the rain yesterday was welcome to farmers -arich orehardists, it seriously interfered with the outdoor gatherings, sports, and games, and ail had to be postponed. It ain began to fall early yesterday morning, and continued with little intermission throughout the day. . , , . Heavy rain fell continuously during the night,. <uid the streets were in places flooded win pools of water. Inquiries made last night go to show that Messrs J. Redstone and Sou s coaches, which left Gisborne yesterday morning, reached their destinations safely, although the creek between Waipiro "and Tokomaru was so swollen from floods that the water was flowing through the coach. Most of the rivers on the Coast roads are in flood, but up to last , night were not dangerous for traffic. HEAVY WEATHER ON THE COAST. (Special to "Times”.) TUPAROA, Mar. 18. There is very heavy weather at Tuparoa and along the coast. The s.s. Flora was unable, to work ports. The second day of the Waiapu Hog Trials has been postponed, .and unless the weather moderates considerably the races appointed for Saturday will be postponed. . . . The rain is welcome to the district for it the first for two months. Last week residents were carting water. It is now raining incessantly.
