Y: ally drowned at Stewart’s Crossing, on - the Null aka River, while driving from Wairoa to Alorere with her brother, Air. Frank Parker, yesterday afternoon. From the pariculavs'to hand it eeeins that at about 3 o’clock the WairoaAlorere coach crossed the river at the same snot without any trouble or danger. but in the meantime the. stream must have swollen considerably on account of the heavy rains. When the j trap and two horses which Air. Parker j was driving got into the middle of the river it was found that- the water was j up to the floor of the trap, -y Air. Parker i and his sister stood on the-scat of the buggy to avoid getting wet, when quite : ] suddenly tin? vehicle overturned, and j Aliss Parker was thrown into the river j between the horses, while her brother was thrown clear of the trap, and man- j aged to reach the* bank. Neither Aliss Parker* thh buggy, nor the horses have i been seen since, - all having been probably washed some distance down by the swift current.

When the news of the sad fatality reached Alorere, a party of men volnn-v tee red to go out to the spot to try and discover any trace of the young iady. Air. Frank Parker; after having changed his clothes, also went out, but all searching was unavailing, as the nightwas too dark and wet- to see anything. )t was only with difficulty that Afr. Parker could be persuaded to give up searching for Into sister until this morning.

The sad news reached Mr. C. J. Parker last night, and he will have many sympathisers with him in his sudden bereavement.
