Lion from these contests, as at the time he was riding particularly well. A reminder of these matches is the result of a contest decided recently at Bos-., ton, when Taylor was again matched against Macfarland, whom he defeated by winning two out of . the three trials constituting the match. Taylor must be riding as well as'ever, as Macfarland has performed brilliantly of late. Taylor subsequently was matched against A. J. Clarke, the Victorian, who won the first test, with Taylor victorious in the second, but the third was declared void, it being alleged that the negro fouled Clarke. Taylor, however, refused to ride again as required, whereupon the match was awarded to Clarke.
