THE BOROUGH ELECTION.
TRADES COUNCIL PLATFORM
An. enthusiastic meeting of unionists AA-as held last evening in connection Avith the approaching borough election. The platform as drafted by tne Trades ancl Labor Council, to which their nominees have subscribed, Avas presented, and warmly approved of. Matters in connection with the campaign were discussed, and it ’.vas resolved to hold meetings of unionists every Thursday until the day of election. The folloAVing is the platform of the Council: — 1. Progress with economy. 2. Improved sanitary conditions, Avhereby the health of the public may be conserved. 3. A complete system of sewerage for the Avhole borough, within the means of our local finances. 4. That the. question of rating on unimproved values be submitted to a poll of the ratepayers at an early date. 5. That tve are opposed to any mcreaso in the general rate. 6. That Ave are in favor of the municipal Nation of lighting by gas or otherwise. - • . 7. That good ; roads and footpaths must be one of the first considerations of the. noAV Council.
