COMMERCIAL.
MATAWHERO BTUCK SALES. There was a large yarding, but only ; a moderate attendance of buyers, at ■ the weekly sale of stock held at Matawhero yesterday. The cattle pens werealmost empty, but the- sheep pens were, well filled, the offering being chiefly ewes and iambs. Prices showed no improvement on last week’s quotations, and sellers had no alternative but to accept ruling rates. SHEEP. Messrs Common, Shelton and Co. and Dalgety and Co. penned about 4000, while Messrs Williams and Kettle and the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. yarded about 10,000, bringing the total up to about 14,000. mostly oavos. There were few fats, aud all on offer were disposed of. Fat ewes brought from 9s to 9s Gd, while forward wethers sold to 9s 6d, oavos sold at prices ranging from 2s 3d ic 10s Id; 145 eAves in excellent condition realising the top price. The principal pens were: 126 two and four-tooth oavos Bs, 191 CAves 7s Id, 4.19 four, six, and eighttooth S«. Poorer pens sold: 8S cavos* and two rams Os Bd, 88 ewes 7s, 110 ewes ss, 110 owes 6s 3d, 19 cull oavos 2s, 43 sound mouthed ewes Gs/ There Avas a fair market for store lambs, the/ principal sales under the hammer being: 17S lambs 7s, 109 at 7s 9d, 59 at 3s Sd, Avith poor sorts as loav as 3s.' Store Avcthers sold: ‘17(5 tAvo-tooths 9s, 209 two and four-tooths lOs od, .134 tAvo and four-tooths at 10s Gd, Avitli o' I'oav small pons at prices from 7s Gd to 8s Gdo. CATTLE. The few pons on offer were all sold. Four beef bullocks at £5 7s, 1 fat coav at £4 LOs, <1 fat coav at £3. These Avere the principal sales under the hammer.
