A ROYAL PHILANTHROPIST.
Princess Christian, who had given her patronage to a matinee that took place recently at the Garrick Theatre, London, in aid of the League of Mercy, is distinguished as a real working philanthropist. She has devoted herself in many ways to parish work at Windsor, frequently assisting at concerts, bazaars, and entertainments. During the winter, when free dinners are given to needy children, the Princess constantly attends and helps to serve out the food. There is a story told which aptly illustrates her kindness of heart. A charitable lady took into her household a poor boy whose case had interested Princess Christian. One day her Highness inquired how he was getting on. The lady related in a shocked manner, the day before, ho had refused to eat cold mutton. “Oh, dear,” exclaimed the Princess,' “but then, no one does like cold jnutton.” The Prince and Princess a short time ago visited the Holiday Home for Cripple Boys at Bishopsgate, on the border of Windsor Great Park. Prince Christian knocked at the door, when presently a small London boy put his head round tb' ! corner of the building. “I s’y, mister,” he observed, “I think you’d better go round the back.” Taking the boy’s advice, they smilingly did go round the back, whero they wore admitted to the Home. y , ..
