CHURCH AND THE MASSES.

The Methodist Conference of Victoria and Tasmania approved of the proposal of the Council of Churches to set apart a Sunday on which the problems of industrial life and their relations to all classes of the'community in their Christian and ethical aspects might be brought before the people. It declared that the true cure for the present social unrest and discontent, and industrial friction between Labor and capital, was in the gospel of Jesus Christ, and the conference rejoiced that all sections of the community were found within the Church, united in a bond of common faith and in a common ideal of Christian .life. It urged, in the name of the great Father of all, that a spirit of brotherhness should govern all relations be r tween employers and employees. It was decided that a committee be appointed to draw up a declaration of the principles which the Church held in reelation to modern industrial problems, : report to the next conference.
