MEAT AND WOOL SHIPMENTS.

PROSPECTS OK RECORD YEAR

The year ending June 30, 1909, bids fair-to be a record one as regards the. quantity of wool and frozen . mutton shipped from the Poverty Bay district. From July Ist, 1008, up to the middle of the’ present month the total number of bales of wool and skins shipped has been 42,632, made up as follows: Tyser line, 17,449 bales;-New Zealand Shipping Company, 16,883 bales; Shaw, Savill and Albion Company, 8300. bales. There hkve also been 307 bales of coastwise shipments by other lines. AH the New Zealand Shipping Co.’s wool has been shipper! at. this port, and the greater portion of'the Shaw; Savill Co.’s, but a considerable portion of the Tyser Co.’s wool has been transhipped at the outside ports of Napier, Auckland, and Wellington. - The- total wool shipments from the district for the; year ending June 30, 1908, amounted to 40,074 bales. .

Shipments of meat ako give promise of a record-return. From July Ist, 1908, to January 12th, 1960, -Messrs Nelson-Bros, shipped-equal to .10.7,728 ■ carcases, and -the Gisborne Sheepfarmers’ Frozen Meat Company, equal to 80,914’ carcases. Since -January 12th, however-; -..great quantities have .beenshipped. . For the .corresponding period of the. previous season- Messrs. Nelson. Bros. had. shipped equal to 76.2-17 car« 'cases, and the-Sheepfarmers’ Co. equal to 76,928 carcases. An interesting fact regarding the- exportation of meat is that the shipments are-worked out on: a basis of GOJlj to the sheep.. Thus, if four sheep totalling 120ibs are shipped, it only r.cally, counts in the returns as two sheep, . - From the foregoing figures it will be seen that' with 'three clear months still to run the i shipments.this, year, are considerably in advance of those of the previous season, and ,it is anticipated-in shipping circles that- when' the complete June 30th of this year are available, it will be found that a new record: for the district has .been, established. - - ’
