THE RAILWAY.
WAIKOHti SECTION OPENED
For the. first time the up. train from Gisborne yesterday morning wont past the temporary terminus at tills side of the new bridge at Wailrohu, and, crossing the structure, pulled up in the large new station yard, a distance of *ust over 23 miles from town. The opening of the section, which has been delayed for some considerable tune, was not made the occasion of the customary official ceremony, but nevertheless, from the settlers’ point of view, the advantages of the additional section will be hard to overestimate. This is especially the case with regard, to trucking stock, which up to the present have Lad to be driven to Paha before"being railed. The new arrangement will also doubtless be appreciated by travellers, as prior to the bridge being built, it was necessary for them to ford the Waikolm river,* a proceeding at times fraught with considerable discomfort, and "even danger. A full' description of the new station and yard has already smeared in a previous issue of the “Times.” Mr. C. Sefton has now been appointed porter in charge of the station, and it is understood that an effort is being made to have the name of the station changed to that of \\ i - lows Crossing, to avoid confusion with the Waikohu sheep station.
