Catalogues were cleared in’ -sellers’ favor. MAT A WHER 0 STOCK SALES. There was a good attendance of buyers at the usual weekly sale of stock held at Matawhero yesterday, and an improvement was noticeable in the demand for breeding ewes, consequently probably on the recent rains and increased prospects for late autumn food. Prices did not show any material rise, but all the ewes penned were disposed of at recent rates. There was again few cattle on offer, and the lots penned failed to attract the serious attention of buyers. SHEEP. The yarding of sheep was a little smaller than usual, and' totalled about 13,000, 8.000 being distributed between Messrs ‘Williams and Kettle and the New Zealand Loan Company, and 5,000 between Messrs Common Shelton ami Dalgety and Company. The only fat pens sold were those on the western ‘ -.side of the road; 46 wethers brought 10s 6d, and a. pen of big-framed forward wethers the same price. In store wethers the principal pens were 56 at Ss 6d, 218 two-tooths at- 10s 7d, 5S at 8s lOd, 228 at 9s. 4d (a nice-look-ing forward lot), 94 at 6s. Id, and 47 in rather poor condition at 3s 9d. The principal other sales were : Breeding ewes sold: 160 Rhmneys at is 9d, 20 ~ sound-mouthed at 7s 3d, and two pens *'V_-of 250, 2,4, 6, and 8-toothed at is Id. A nice lot of 504 young ewes brought 7s Bd, moderate sorts at from 4s t-o 7s and a pen of 118 old ewes as low as" 3s.' Lambs did not find ready buyers, 20 good woolly sorts sold at 6s, / 0 at 2s 7d, and small pens from 2s o(i to 3s 6cl. CATTLE. Ther was scarcely any demand for cattle at auction ; 6 heavy-weight bullocks brought £8 ss, one fat cow £3 10s, 16 calves £1 3s, 3 calves los, 5 bullocks £4 14s 6d. 1 at £3 15s, and 3 bullocks at £3 17s pd. - Pigs.—6 weaners sold at 16s.
