FALLING OFF IN CUSTOMS.
[Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, April 3. Tlic Customs returns for Auckland for the year ’ended March 31st, disclose a f alling, off in value both m imports and exports. The imports ftotalled £4 539,377, and there was a falling off of £264,091 compared with the Previous vear when the total was £4,803,463. The port figures were £3,029,607 against £3,355,612, a retrogression of £3-0,-955. THE PETONE FATALITY. NELSON. April 3. The City Council last night appointed Mr G A. Edmonds as Town Clerk, and* recorded a resolution expressing appreciation of the services of -Jr ±l. V. Gully, who is retiring from the position after 34 years’ service. FREEZING 'WORKS RECORD MONTH. CHRISTCHURCH, April 3. March was the busiest month on record at the Belfast Freezing 'Works; 116,000 sheep and lambs were slaughtered. The heaviest day was on the 24th. when 5860 were killed. THE AMOKURA. NAPIER, April 3. The Government training ship Amokura arrived yesterday afternoon from "Wellington and left at daylight this morning for Auckland. NAPIER Y.M.C.A. At a meeting last night it was reported that inability to secure suitable premises had so far stood in the way of the establishing of a branch of the Y.M.C.A. in Napier,but the provisional committee were continued in office in the hope that the difficulty would ere long be overcome. THE CROWN In the judgment in the case in which Odton Hill Brick Tile and Township Company sought to recover damages from the Crown, the company asserted that in consequence of tunnelling in connection with the duplication of the Mo&giel railway, the brick kiln had been gradually weakened and finally destroyed, and the company thereby hampered and injured in its business as bficktnakers, and ultimately derived of business. The claim was originally ror £9500, but an item of £ISOO for depreciation was .abondoned. The court awarded the claimant company £IoUU. Mr. Justice 'Williams, who had been detained here owing to this case, ieit for 'Wellington to-day to attend tlic Court of Appeal. .■
