TIDAL WAVES.
AT IiAItOTOXGA AND TAHITI
[Per Press Association.]
WELLINGTON, April 6. News by the Manapouri from the Islands to-day states that on 'the night of the 7tli March three heavy seas broke over the south side of the island of Rarotonga. They rolled in over the reef, and covered the low-lying land to a depth of 10ft, washing away four wooden bridges and smashing a concrete bridge. A large number of cocoanut trees were brought down, and blocked the road. The inundation made the carriage of fruit very difficult. On the same night the south end of Tahiti was washed by tidal waves, and schooners - from tlui Paumotus Group report a similar occurrence there.
