BUSINESS IN NEW ZEALAND. V
[Per Press Association.]
AUCKLAND, April 6. > From figures for the year ended 31st December, 1908, which information it -T is customary for the fire insurance companies to supply annually, it appears that the result of the operations of all fire insurance companies with respect j to their business in the Dominion j the year 1908 is a loss of £159,35-1. Oyer,, the period covered by the previous fo'W years the companies made an J tional loss of £95,602, so that during the five years ended 31st December, 1908, the companies, after paying ail losses and expenses, have made a total loss of no less than £250,956. This amount would probably lie found ter be greater if the claims recovered from Lloyd’s and other outside companies con’d be ascertained and brought into ■aeeccunt. The results of the State M friro Department are also omitted from the above statement.
