CRICKET.
THE AUCKLAND TEAM. The members of the Auckland team arrived by the Wimmera yesterday, and were mot on tho wharf on the arrival of tho launch at 2.15 by Messrs H. G. Rose (lion, secretary of the Poverty Bay Cricket Association), R. G. Hallamore, J. Hr Wack, and W. Gibson (members of the Reception Committee). The team, which is an exceptionally strong one, had a good passage down, and tlie members, twelve, in number, appeared to be in the pink of condition. On the trip down, A. 31. Howden, the organiser of the team, was elected captain, and will lead the strongest cricketing combination which has yet appeared in Gisborne in the series of matches commencing at 10 o’clock this morning.
TO-DAY’S MATCH. The following are the teams to play in tho opening match of the Auckland team’s programme, at Victoria Domain, this morning:— Auckland: A. M. Howden (captain), E. V. Sale, W. Robinson, J. M. Hussey, F. L. Prime, F. A. McNeill, L. McMahon, C. L. Ea.stgate, W. Coleman, P. G. Andrew, C. C. Bayliss, and H. L. Clist. On© of the team will stand down. Poverty Bay: W. Oates, L. FRIDAY’S MATCH. To-morrow, the. Waikohu County Club’s team will meet a local eleven at Victoria Domain, ulay starting at 11 a.m. The following player will represent the Poverty Bay Cricket Association:—Dud field,* 11. Whyte, Commons, Jeffrey, R. Adamson, L. Manning, T. Armstrong, G. Glennie, W. Gibson, J.~ A. Bowman, and H. E. Maude. Messrs Goffe and Thelwall will stand as umpires SATURDAY’S MATCH. The selectors have chosen the following local players to meet the Auckland team on-Saturday: —E. Wliiteley, D. M. Gorman, S. McConnell, H. Babbs, E. Sharpies, A. Young, J. Charles, S. Mill. C. On Monday and Tuesday next the real trial of strength between Poverty Bay and the strong Auckland eleven will be fought out. The local eleven will be selected on . Saturday evening , next. Messrs-Goffe and Thelwall will be the umpires. POVERTY BAY ASSOCIATION. A special general meeting of tlie above Association was held at the British Empire Hotel last evening to consider a notice of motion by Mr. Av. Gibson to amend rule 37 of tlie Association’s by-laws to permit of appeals being made to the New Zealand Cricket Council. In moving tlie motion, Mi. Gibson pointed out that as the by-law stood at present there was no appeal from decisions of the local Management Committee. Air. J. Lang seconded the motion, which was carried unanimous.y.
