'The following are the results of the. first day’s racing of the Australian Jockey Club’s autumn meeting: First Hurdles Race, 2-V miles.—Old Chappie, 9.7, 1; Yarrabundie, 9.3, 2; Alert Dream, 10.10, 3. Ten starters. Won by three lengths. Wharekura fell after going six furlongs on the first time round, when leading. Time, 4min •ili-sec. Autumn Stakes, 14 miles. —Trafalgar 1, Parsee 2, Artillerie 3. Howletts was best away, followed by Artillerie. A great race home followed. Trafalgar won by a neck. Time, 2min 35]sec. Sires Produce Stakes, 7 furlongs'.— Prince Foote 1, Malt King 2, Gidyea 3. Won by a length and a-half. Time, ]min 26s]ec. Doncaster Handicap. —Hyman, 7.13, 1; Irishman, 8.4, 2; Virtu, 9.2, 3. All 27 acceptors started, Hyman showing out first, and kept the lead for five _furlongs, attended by True Scot, "Virtu, and Irishman. Hyman entered the straight a length and a-ha!f in front ol virtu, followed by True Scot and Irishman, and ran home an easy winner by four lengths; two lengths between second and Rul'd. Time, lmin 38]see. St. Leger, miles. —Lord Nolan 1, Vavasor 2, Monobel 3. 'Jhe only othei starter was Flaxen. The last-named first away, and soon established a load of a lensrtli and a-half from Lord Nolan and Monobel. At the halfmile Flaxen was still in front,, but at the three furlongs Monobel headed the field, and entered the straight on oven terms. A little further on Lord Nolan drew out, and won by a length and ahaT, with Monobel three-quarters off, third. Time, 3n.in ssec. High-weight Handicap*' 6 utrkmgs. Panama, 9.12, 1 ; La Pa trie, 9.0, 2 , F.ar’ev Brew, 9.4, 3. There were 28 starters. Won by a length. Time, lmin 15seo. The weather was fine, and the attendance very large. The Auckland Racing Chub’s autumn meeting opened to-day in cloudy weather. There was a good attendance. The fields in the various events were fairly large, but there was only a moderate attendance. -The racing, on the whole, was good, and there were one or two close finishes. Five bookmakers were licensed, and as outsiders -wore successful in the majority of the events, they had a good day. The following were the results of the racing: HURDLE RACE, of lGsovs; one mile and a-half.—Hikapuhi, 11-10 (Callaghan), 1. Matiti and Snider also started, but both run off at the. jump at the back of the course, and Hikapuhi finished alone.
MAIDEN SCURRY, of osovs; four furlongs; 9 stone. —Bobs (Williams) 1, Break-up 2, Paratah 3. Won easily by two lengths. PAKOWH AI CUP , of 12sovs; one mile and a-half. —Kaikuri, 11.0 (Olsen), I - Togo. 11.7 (Hennessy), 2; Matiti, 11.10 (Mclntosh). 3. Hay Boy 12.0, Catchem 11.12, Cakewalk 10.12, and Moss Bose 9.12 also started. After a good start Togo and Kaikuri were left to fight out the finish. Over the last four furlongs both horses were under the whip, end Olsen received a nasty blow across the eyes. Hikapahi 10. 0, and Hay Bov 12.0 also started. From a good start Jack showed out first, but was soon headed by Kaitoa, who kept the lead, and won rathe.
