BOWLING.

GISBORNE CLUB. There was a fairly good muster of members on the green of the Gisborne Club on Saturday afternoon, and some interesting play took place. The following are the results of the principal games*: — , . Hird, Wootton, Sawyer, F. A. Martin (skip, 24, beat Lucas, W. Pcttie, Hookey, Simson (skip) 16. Elliott, Pavitt* Birss, J. J. Martin (skip), 21, beat F. T. Pettie, Paltridge, F. Harris, Ponsford: (skip), 19. To-day nlay will be earned on at the green all day, beginning at 10 a.m. It is intended to continue the District Shield competition, and such other match games as- it may be convenient to play. The lady friends of the bowlers are invited to be present and afternoon tea is to be provided. TURANGANUICLUB. Play was indulged in at the TurangamifiClub’s green all day on Saturday, when one match game and several practice games were played. The result- of the match game was: Handicap Singles.—J. Somervell (8) 17 beat W. Bruce (9) 15.—This was a splendidly contested game. On the sth bead the scores were 2 each, and on the 6th head 4 each. At the 12th head Somervell was 10 to 6, and keeping the lead was 13 to Bon the 17th head. On the next four heads, however, Bruce made a great recovery, and on the final head the scores were level —15 all. In the extra head played Somervell secured 2 and won the game. The first round in this competition is to be completed to-day, \\ lien all unplayed games will be forfeited. Entries for the challenge pairs for the Douglas Feathers close this afternoon, when the pairs will be drawn. Play on the Turanganui green is to be commenced at 10 a.m. to-day. Aiternoon tea will be provided, and a pleasant day is anticipated.
