TOLOGA BAY REGATTA

The initial regatta of the Uawa Rowino- Club was held on the Uawa river, I’oToga Bay, on Saturday. The weather ivas pleasant, and there was a large attendance, including a number of visitors from Gisborne. The Hauiti Band was present, and contributed a musical programme, and afternoon tea was served by tile Ladies' Committee. Tbe various CA'ents were conte ,>xed, the visitors being successful m most of the events. The ten-stone senior race between Gisborne and Tologa Bay crews resulted in a win for the Gisborncites bv about a length, and Poverty Bay Club beat the Gtsborue- Club crew by -a few feet in the lOst junior race. In the heat Tologa Bay versus Poverty Bay, the visitors lvere again successful, after a good race., A married men’s race between fouroar crews from the Gisborne, Poverty Bay, and Tologa Bay Clubs was he.d. Rees Jones’ Poverty Bay crew winn.ng rather easily. The Poverty Bay Club s ten-stone crew heat the Gisborne Clubs ten-stone crew rather easily, but the Gisborne Chib’s junior crew deieated Poverty Bay. The rest of the afternoon was spent in aquatic sports, diving, climbing the greasy boom, and such pastimes, that caused groat amusement.
