MUNICIPAL ELECTION.

ATTITUDE OF THE TRADES COUNCIL. At the Trades Council, on Saturday ■evening, the President (Mr- M. G. Nasmith, junr), stated that he liad been asked to bring before the Council the advisability ol the two candidates for the Mayoralty addressing a meeting of the Council. Mr. S. Old proposed that both candidates be invited to address the Council. Mr. R. G. Haycock seconded the proposition. Mr Williams raised the question as to whether the Council had not decided oh n neutral attitude on the Mayoralty. If such an attitude had been decided on, why invite the candidates? The President stated that no resolution had been carried to that effect, it simply being understood that the Council itself would take no side. It was resolved that a special meeting the Council be held next Saturday -evening, at which Air. TV. D. Lysnar will be invited to‘attend. It was suggested that Mr. TV. Miller should address the Council'on the Saturday night previous to the election. Mr. T. B. Sweet stated that an unfortunate circumstance had arisen which prevented him being a nominee of the Trades Council in the approaching Borough Council election. The President expressed regret at icircumstances preventing Air. Sweet from being a nominee of the Council, hut thought that if Air. Sweet stood in 4in independent capacity he would receive every support from the delegates. It was now for the Council to decide whether they should nominate a candidate in place of Air. Sweet or simply support their other two nominees. After discussion Mr. S. Old gave notice to move “that the resolution on tile-minutes resolving that three nominees be supported, he rescinued, with a view of reducing the number .to two. The Council then met as an election committee, and discussed matters relative to the campaign.
