They were in tile same order at the half-mile, where Flaxen and Flavinius died away. Trafalgar, Black Prince, and Footpad showed the. way into the straight, where Ungarie and Didus put in their claim. Despite a great run by Ungarie at the half-distance, Trafalgar struggled home a winner by half-a-length. Time, 3min 29£sec\ First Steeplechase, about 21 miles. — Saverne 1, Kuala 2, Lumpur 3. Tho Canterbury Jockey Club’s autumn meeting opened to-day in beautiful weather, with the course in good order, and a capital attendance. Although one or two events were won rather easily, there was still some very interesting racing. \V. O’Connell, who rode Stronghold in the Hurdle Race received a very bad spill, and had to be brought into the hospital. The totalisator investments amounted to £17,853, as against £15,626 last year; while the bookmakers’ fees totalled £342 10s. Armlet’s time in the Great Eastern Handicap beat Savoury’s Australasian record by l-osec. The following are the results: Kildare Hurdles, loOsovs, 2 miles. — Southern Cross, 9.7, 1; Eurus, 10.11, 2. Stronghold 11.5 and Snip were the only other starters, and fell at the last hurdle. Southern Cross won easily by twelve lengths. Time, 2min 50 3-5 sec. FEILDING, April. 12. . Persistent rain fell all day yesterday, but there was fine weather to-day lor the Feilding races. There was & large attendance, and the track was a little bit heavy but the racing was good. There were three bookmakers inside and six outside. The totalisator takings were £12,103, against £17,246 last year. The weather promises well for to-morrow. The results are as follows: Waiata Hack Handicap. Hyland 8.2 1, Waipunui 7.2 2, Maidi 7.13 3.
