PTOMAINE POISONING.
SEVERAL CASES IN GISBORNE
A number of cases of what has been pronounced to he ptomaine poisoning have occurred in Gisborne this week, the persons affected being residents of tho Coronation Hotel. Mr Gintaro, the Japanese juggler with Maskelyne and Levant's Mysteries Company, was unable to appear at tho theatre last night, as he is suffering rather badly, and Mrs. Lucas, Miss Lucas, Mr. Bert Lucas, and a waitress have all had minor attacks.
The sufferers were complaining of a feeling of sickness since Sunday, and yesterday Mr. Gintaro was so ill as to render it necessary for him to receive medical attention. Dr. Collins was called in, and 110 pronounced Mr. Gintaro to be suffering rather acutely from ptomaine poisoning. It is anticipated ‘hat he will be .sufficiently recovered, however, .to proceed south with tho other members of the company this evening. Mrs. and Miss Lucas have almost” recovered, but both the waitress and Mr. Bert Lucas are still feeling far from well. Various conjectures have been made as to the probable cause of the epidemic, and Mrs. Lucas informed a “Times'’ representative that the only thing she can attribute it to ifi the fact that”on Sunday they partook of a fruit salad of which tinned peaches formed, one of the ingredients.
