MINING IN UREWERA COUNTRY.
MINERS’ RIGHTS TO BE ISSUED IN GISBORNE.

WELLINGTON. April 13. Notice is gazetted extending, the boundaries of'the Hauraki mining district to the Urewera country, covering about 656,000 acres, known as the Urewera district native reserve, which will now he. open to mining. Mining rights will be issued on the payment of a tec of toil shillings annually, and no person wilt be allowed to prospect- lor minerals without a license. No native or imported game is to be shot or snared within the reserve, and timber is only to he cut for domestic and mining purposes. T'tf land set apart for cultivation, residence, or burial grounds is not to Tie interfered with. Any person discovering gold is to report to the warden full particulars of the discovery. A royalty of sixpence lor every ounce of gold won within the reserve is to be paid to the native owners. Miners rights will he issued at the post offices at* Wairoa, Opotiki, Gisborne, and Rotorua. Constable Wilcox, Clerk of the Court at Whakatario, lias been appointed the Receiver of Gold Revenue and Mining Registrar for the distinct.
