AN UNSUCCESSFUL ATTEMPT. (Press Assoeiation.) AUCKLAND, April 13. A telegram was received this a Iternoon from Birtles, the cyclist, who -left Auckland at 1.30 p.m. on Saturday, in an attempt to cycle to Wellington in 72 hours. The message, which was put in at Taihape at 1.15 this afternoon, read- “Arrived Taihape. Rivers flood-ed;-hsul to swim. Como v.a laui>o aim Tok.ianui.” :■. ■ • _ a- £ !
