CORRESPONDENCE.
[Correspondence on public matters is welcomed at all times, but it must be distinctly understood that this journal is in no way associated with the opinions of its correspondents.] CIVIL SERVANTS. 4? [To The Editor.] Sir, —Your correspondent “Dreadnought,” in airing some personal grievance against Air. Keefer, . has not troubled himself to ascertain the true circumstances connected with the appointment ol that gentleman as president of the Tairawhiti District Maori Land Board. Air. Keefer had a special knowledge of Native affairs, and his long connection with the. Board as a member made him thoroughly conversant. with its business, and the most suitable officer available for carrying it on. All tbe time Air. Brodrick was acting as president. Air. Keefer sat as a member, and I am assured by Air. Brodrick that had it not been for liis (Mr. Keefer’s) able, willing and disinterested assistance lie could not have carried out the important work of the Board and his own departmental duties at the same time.—l am, etc., “JUSTICE.”
