The Gisborne Times PUBLISHED EVERY MORNING. FRIDAY, APRIL 16, 1909. THE HARBOR BOARD.
The members of the Gisborne Harbor Board have acted wisely in publishing the financial, proposals by which they hope to mako the purchase of a dredge possible. There will, of course, be objections to tho methods suggested, but wo believe, them to be perfectly sound and the best that could bo adopted. No one will like to see tho wharfages raised, but some means must be devised to pay for the superior facilities that are to be provided; and this appears to us a ease in which tho direct way is the better way of meeting tho position. Jn other words, the commerce of the toaui must obviously hear tlie burden that is imposed for its bene- ' it. However, now that the Board has published the proposals, there, is ample opportunity to discuss the position before final steps are taken in regard to- the purchase of a dredge; and we will welcome any expressions of opinion from members of the community who may have pronounced views on the question. The matter is a very important one, and should receive careful consideration on the part of all who are interested in the commerical welfare of the town.
