THE BRITISH NAVY.

WINSTON CHURCHILL’S OPINION.

THE TWO-POWER STANDARD ABSURD.

United Press Association—Copyright, (Received April 15, 10.30 p.m.)

LONDON, April IS

Mr. Winston Churchill, in a letter to his constituents, says that whether in ships, men, or guns, Britain’s superiority over Germany is overwhelming, and that any colonial Dreadnoughts would be additional to the British programme. The Admiralty is prepaved to prove that Britain in 1912 will be effectively superior to tho next two European Powers. Tho two-Poiver standard, he said, is now devoid of meaning. It is absurd, ho contends, to build against the United States. The present panic is due, he says, to sheer cowardice, based upon stupid and vicious errors. There is, lie declares, no antagonism between Britain and Germany, only commercial rivalry, therefore it is the duty of men of light and leading to deny countenance to the spirit of distrust.

THE “DAILY CHRONICLE’S” CRITICISM.

A VERY PERTINENT COMMENT

The “Daily Chronicle,” commenting on Air Winston Churchill’s letter, says: “Poor Mr. Asquith has some reputation for clear thinking and luc-id expression, yet his young colleague characterises his workable formula as a vicious, stupid error.” .
