In connection with the social which . it is proposed to hold shortly in aid of the funds of the Gisborne District School a meeting of those* interested was held in the school last night. Mr. John Somervell, chairman of the tcnool committee, presided, and there was a fair attendance, including several ladies. , . , • The Chairman stated tnat the object of the meeting was to make arrangements for a social to be held with the intention of raising funds to improve the school ground and, entrance, at an estimated cost of £209. Ho moved that •ill present form thernselvesi .nno a committee to endeavor to .make the social a success. . The motion was carried unanimously ; various sub-committees were formed, and Messrs D. Cowan and R. Somervell were appointed joint secretaries. A meeting of ladies interested will be convened lor Tuesday afternoon, to ascertain if they will be willing .to undertake the catering for the oocial.
