Patten prophesies that before many months the people of Europe will struggle for bread in famine-stricken queues. Patten has engaged a detective to protect him owing,to public indignation against his gambling in foodstuffs. = The Hon. J. B. Wilson, secretary for Agriculture, Washington, states that Patten reckons supplies as too low, and that only one wheat corner has ever succeeded, that conducted by Joseph in Egypt. Air. J. J. Hill, chairman of the board of directors of the Great Northern railway system, Canada, prophesies that wheat will not return to low prices for' a long time. LONDON, April 47. The “Economist” states that Patten’s corner is far less important to the British working classes than any of the b : g past manipulations, and that it is evident that the high prices in London must be attributed to other causes than .Chicago manipulations.
