A sitting of the Hawke’s Bay Land Board adjourned from Napier was held in Gisborne on Saturday. There were present: The Commissioner of Crown Lands (Mr. H. Trent), Messrs E. Lane and Wright. Messrs. J. A. McDonnell and Arthur Nicholls asked that section 4 Block 10, Whan gar a, L.1.P., be transferred to J. A. McDonnell. The application was granted. Mr. G. F. Dobbie, Hangaroa, applied for exemption from residence and improvements on section 1, block 7, Hanparoa.—Granted. The ranger reported upon an application for a miscellaneous license to Mabel McDermott over section 3, block 10. Ngatapa. The report stated that the block was heavily timbered with timber suitable for miiing purposes. The applicant had not erected an accommodation house on the land as required by the terms of the license which .Mrs. McDermott holds over the adjoining section. Mr. Robertson said there was very little business in the district for an accommodation' house. ' Mr. Lane said Mrs. McDermott had had -misfortunes and he thought the license should be granted. The license to include the right to cut the timber upon payment of royalty to the Government. , , , Mr. T. A. Coleman (who appeared for the applicant) said that if Mrs. McDermott obtained some rights oyer the timber she would be able to dispose of her rights. The Commissioner said the Board would need further information as to whether Mrs. McDermott was able to fulfil* the terms of the license before tin* application was granted. The mattor would bo dealt with at the nextmeeting of the Board in Napier. The ranger reported upon sections lb to 20 Tiniroto. L.1.P., held in the name of John Walsh. The report stated that Mr. Coopei had bought the sections from Walsh with the improvements for £9O. The ranger thought most/ of the improvements were on the road. The Commissioner said the transfer had never been registered and the sections had been forfeited. Mr. Brodrick said the title had been inpounded by a Gisborne solicitor and Cooper had been unable to register the Transfer. He suggested that time be allowed to register the transfer Air Lane said the Board bad granted the transfer to Cooper, who was m occupation and his failure to register the transfer was through an act, of tne previous tenant. Air. Lane moved that the cancellation, of the forfeiture of the lease to AValsh be rescinded, and that Mr. Cooper be asked to register his title and pay the rent due. Air. AY right seconded the motion which was carried. . ~ John Ale L. Blair asked that sections 3 a nd 8. blocks 6 and 7, Alton, be transferred to Arthur Blair. The transfer was granted. AV. R. Rutledge applied to transfer small grazing run 15, AA igan, to AA i L. Rutledge. The transfer was granted. The Cook County Council submitted a scheme for the expenditure ql £624 19s 3d accrued thirds and fourths lor The scheme was adopted. j B Pickard inquired it sections 7 raid 8, block 4, Alotu, were still available lor selection at the upset price. It was decided to offer the sections by auction as required by the Act. Air' J Alorton asked the section held at*To Arai bv C. J: A T . Ahum, at present in gaol, be transferred to his brother who is coining from England. Air. Hutchinson and bherriff 'waited upon the Board in reference to the surrender of run 4*. Ngatapa. They claimed £SOOO compensation. The Chairman said that when g l^ 2 ' in- runs were taken for closer settlement there was no claim for eompensa t-ion. but as the rent exceeded £oCU year five vears’ rent could be allowed. 5 Air Hutchinson said the Board had considered a proposition to tike hij land some years ago and to pav 4HU compensation, but the Almistti Lands would not give Ins consent The Commissioner said tin Bo.ua could resume pastoral lands upou giving twelve months notice. Mr Hutchinson saul the lease had still two years to run. and he was only claiming the not income lor two vtais. Mr. Lane suggested that as compensation was not payable that -VKjsnsHutchinson and Shernft should i t draw their offer to surrender the land. The Commissioner said d the Goveniment thought- fit the lessees could be compelled to surrender the run. Air, Hutchinson said that if com pin .nation was not payable he would pvetvr to hold the run tor the balance ot the lease. , , , .p The Commissioner said he would look up tin' past, correspondence on the valuation of the holding and the mattoi would be further considered. Air Hutchinson said he was prepan cl to surrender about 4900 acres of grass country on the run without compensation. and the offer was accepted. ’Hie Board then went into committee to deal with a number, of applications for rights- to mortgage.
