POVERTY BAY GOLF CLUB

Favored with an ideal day, the Poverty Bay Golf Club had a most successful opening of their season on Saturday. About a hundred members and friends assembled at their new clubhouse, and after they had been photographed in front of the. building, the captain (Mr. J. H. Bui!) called on Mr. R. J. Reynolds (the president of the club) to formally open the links. Mr. Reynolds, in a happy speech, complimented the club on the possession of such a pretty ■club-house and surroundings, and also on having such an energetic committee, and after wishing the club every successs, he asked Miss It/y----nolds to start the season by driving tre first ball. Miss Reynolds’ part of the performance was most successfully accomplished, a really capital drive bemg made, calling forth rounds of appla-i.se. The members then started off in various directions to play their openi.ig competition. After afternoon tea bad been partaken of at Mrs. Reynolds’ invitation, on the return journey the following results were posted up : Miss Bull and Mr. Symos, gross score 89, less 30—59 (winners); Mrs. Gibson and Mr. Tliodey, 85—25—60; Miss Svmes and Dir.
