A TRADES COUNCIL’S PROTEST

INVERCARGILL, April 19. At a meeting on Saturday night, the Southland Trades and Labor Council unanimously carried the following resolution—" That tho council strongly protest against tho unwarrantable and undemocratic action of the Premier in removing from the Houso of Representatives and giving to a member of the Upper House the important portfolio of Minister of Justice, being decidedly of opinion tljat in an enlightened and democratic community the. control and administration of the Justice and Police Departments should bo held bv a man who has been elected by and is responsible to tho electors of the Dominion, and that copies of this resolution ho forwarded to the other Trades and Labor Councils and organisations, who will be -asked to make similar protests.” [The Minister of Justice, is tho Hon.. Dr. Findlay, who is a gentleman of high standing in the legal and general community, but tv bom some of tho more violent among the Trades Unionists regard a.s an enemy of their class.]
