THE MAORI CONFERENCE.
L\XD DIFFICULTY SATISFACTORILY SETTLED.

AUCKLAND. April 19. The Native conference at Huntly today terminated in an apparent solution of ‘lard problems which havo concerned the Waikato tribes for many years. The proposals submitted to the Ministers in attendance, with regard to the allocation of 700,000 acres of land reported on by the Native Land Commission, were agreed to, as was also a suggestion for the use of the funds domed from the sale of the Man a land to repurchase certain areas at Ngaurnhoo and To Kuiti for village se.Cement puiposos. The question as to whether lands proposed to be leased and sold should bo .administered by the Native Land Boards o T a Native Committee proved to vexed a one, however, tor sett’ement off-hand, and the leaders of the Natives agreed to go into committee for further consideration, the result was eminently satisfactoiy, Iving Maliuta .announcing this afternoon that his people were agreeable to lands sea aside for European settlement being administered by the Boards at present constituted, with the provision that the proposed Native Committee should acv in an advisory capacity. Provision wou’d bo made for landless Natives, and everything, including the ft dm ini set ation’ of the dog tax, would be placed in the hands of the Native Minister. The Hon. J. Carroll, Native Minister, and the Hon. A. T. Ngata, who attended the conference, left by the Main Trunk express for Wellington to-night.
