ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
A CHRISTCHURCH ACCIDENT

CHRISTCHURCH, April 20. In connection with an accident to Janies Smart, in Barbadoes Street, on Satruday evening, the police state that the occurrence took place through Smart colliding with a cart driven by a man named Edward Wright, employed by his father, a manufacturer of aerated waters. Wright states he was driving along Barbadoes Street about 6.30. He was on his right side, with the lamp burning on the cart. A man shot out from Hereford Street on a bicycle, and ran between the horse's legs. The wheel of the cart passed oyer him, and the horse received a fright and dashed, down the road about' a chain before he could pull up. On going back he found Smart, who did not appear to be very badly hurt. Ho was able to give, his name, and was then placed in a cab and taken to bis home. The injured man is progressing favorably at the hospital. HEADLESS BODY FOUND. DUNEDIN. April 20. A young lady and her brother were walking along Purakanui beach yesterday afternoon, when they observed a headless body close to the shore. .1 he body was dressed in a blue jersey and dark trousers. They immediately returned to Dunedin, and communicated with the police, who went out to the locality this morning to make, a search.
