GISBORNE BOROUGH COUNCIL.

FORTNIGHTLY. MEETING. The fortnightly meeting of the Borough Council was held last evening. Present : The Mayor ;(Mr. W. D. Lysnar), ; Ors. < Pettie, Sawyer, Somervell, Whinray, Barton, Mann, Sheridan, and Dr. Williams. CORRESPONDENCE. • • A letter ay a a received from the residents of Stanley Road calling the attention of the Council to the deplorable state of the road, and requesting that 'it. be put in order. Also drawing attention to tlje fact tliat there are nine occupied dwellings on the -21 chains and that the occupants lrave no other means of access.—Councillors expressed the opinion that, the road was oiie of the worst in the borough. On the motion ..of Cr. -P.ettie.itnvas decided to do /the' necessary work at the 1 opportunity. v f Messrs Nolan and Sheet, solicitors, -wrote declining the Council’s offer, of £3 10s in connection with they loss of the beast belonging to Mr.. Majhiard at the abattoirs. Tho sum of £7- was demanded. —After a-short discussion it .was resolved - that .Meiers. Nolan and Sheet .should be ashed-; to point out what regulation had been broken in .connection with the. slaughter of. the -beast. : «A telegram was received from' Mr. C. J. Reakes, Government veterinarian, declining to grant the application of E. . Jr-Harrisoii, butcher r -Patutahi, to ■ re- ’ move meat from the abattoirs: on the same, day that it is killed.—lt was decided that Mr. Harrison be granted the use of :a-duplicate key to the abattoirs., in order that he could get his meat earlier than the usual time. He ■ also offered to come .to Gisborne anddevise and carry out an. economical and efficient scheme, and at the. same time personally superintend the installation of his .system.- —The letter ; was held over until matters at present under consideration are settled. -A wire was read from Messrs Smith .Bros., of Napier, stating that the auxiliary schooner Tuhara was to be despatched., last night with a load of shingle for the Council.—The Mayor explained that the. delay had been occasioned by the. Kaiti.; I have had the drains on Wainui Road and Crawford Road, cleaned odt, other streets are also being attended to. Gravel Pit : Mr. Day informs me that the material for connecting the siding lias come to hand, and the work will be put in hand at once. “Estimate of Expenditure on Streets for past Year.—l have not been able to write up the-full ; details of each street,, for want of-time, but will give it later,-if required.
