The first membership social in connection with the Young Men s Chi-stnui Association was held last evening, and was we 1 ! attended. Songs were sung l,v Messrs Brownlee, 'Wilkinson, Grieve, Bloore, McClymout. and Ivisshng. Iho accompaniments wore .played oy Alossis Parsons, Sharpe, and Webster. A.<>ssts Bloore and Paul gave grecitations and three glees rendered by tiny students ol To Ran College were very popular items. . ~ , During the evening Mr. H. Atiai. who presided, stated that he hadbeen asked on behalf of the Board of Du colors to put briefly before the members the purpose of the Y.M.C.A movement and the aim of the promoters of the local branch in developing a well-bal-anced manhood. He referred to the Association’s badge, an inverted triangle, representing the three pa its of man’s nature, spirit, nund, ami body, and said that the directors hoped that, in addition to excelling in athletics, Uie members would develop in character. The next monthly rally is to be a ‘•Scotch” night, and it is proposed to add other novelties from time to tune.
