HIDES MARKET. Exited Press Association— Copyright (Received April 52. 10.5 p.m.) MELBOURNE. April 22. Hides: Light sorts -|d lower; stouts unchanged. MATAWHERO STOCK SALES. There was oiTv,a small yarding of stock at the usual weekly sale held atMatawliero yesterday. The sheep on offer comprised chiefly wethers and lambs, that found fair competition; but the lateness of the season caused a dull market for ewes. Cattle were in fair demand, butchers’ supplies being wanted, but slieep farmers did not experience a honeful market. SHEEP. The sheep on cfTcr cK lieu aLv. at 3000, which met a poor dou.u. d. »\ others touched 10s, and lambs CL 2d dbcouragiug prices compared with those or’ April, 190 S, and ewes were not wanted. The following were the principal sales: 24 fat ewes at 7s 6d. and 14 fat ewes at os 9d. Store wethers sold: 23 twotootlis at 6s 3d, 510 choice 2 and 4-tooth Romney cross wethers, from Haugaroa, sold at 10s —the top price of the. day's market. Other wether pens were: 5 2 2-tooths at 7s 9d (this pen contained afew ewes also), 10S 2-tooth wethers at 9s Cd. 59 2-tooths at 10s. Store ewes sold: 150 full-mouthed ewes at 6s Id, 50 at 5-s lid, 132- at os 6d, 77 2-tooths at 8s od, 48 poor quality ewes at 2s •10d. and 20 old ewes at Is lOd. Lambs sold: 36 at 4s 7d, 113 at 6s 20, 900 at 5s Id, and a poor lot of 240 at 2s 3d. ' CATTLE. The yarding of cattle covered about 400 head. Butchers’ supplies sold well, but stores met only a moderate demand. The following were the chief sales: 2 heifers at £2 17s 6d, 28 steers at £4, 41 yearling steers at £2 10s, 10 heef bullocks at £6 12s 6d (equal to ISs per 1001 b). 1 beef cow at £3 10s, 1 bullock at £5. 2 beef cows at £4 2s 6d, 3 forward bullocks at £4 17s 6d, 2 heifers £2 10s, 6 store cows £2, 4 heifers 15s. Other pens at similar prices. Calves from 13s to 20s. PIGS. Pigs sold: Woaners from 6s to 10s, porkers to 30s 6d.
